Question by Michael: How to match a 4 channel amplifier with 4 speakers?
I know when choosing an amplifier you want to come as close as possible to matching the speakers peak power. What I don't want to assume is that if I have 4 speakers each putting out 200 watts peak a total of 800 watts peak. Do I match the 800 watts peak with a 800 watt amplifier? I'm just making sure there isn't a different way to do the math.

Answer by Jesseactually you want to match the rms (continuous power) of the amp to the speakers rms wattage
so if the 4 speakers are 50rms each, thats 200 watts, so youd want an amp that is 50rmsx4
if theyre 200 peak for each then the amp should be 200x4 peak or a total of 800 watts.
if its around 700 watts it really isnt that big of a deal either, as long as rms is close enough.
What do you think? Answer
