How many ways are there to ?

Question by arif m: How many ways are there to ?
How many ways are there to select 5 players from a 10-members tennis team to make a trip to a match at another college?
A single card is drawn from an ordinary deck S of 52 cards. Find the probability P that:
(a) The card is king.
(b) The card is face card (jack, queen or king).
(c) The card is a heart.
(d) The card is a face card and a heart.
(e) The card is a face card or a heart.

Best answer:
Answer by Philoselecting 5 from 10 is 10c5 = 252

p(king) = 4/52 = 1/13
p(face) = 12/52 = 3/13
p(heart) = 13/52 = 1/4
p(heart & face) = 3/52
p(face or heart) = 12/52 + 13/52 - 3/52 = 22/52 = 11/26
{you subtract 3/52 to avoid counting the heart facecards twice}
